What is Superficial Body Fat?
Although excess weight is often the cause of body fat, people who have an average bodyweight may suffer from stubborn body fat too, particularly on areas such as the legs, arms, back and bottom. Body fat, also known as adipose tissue, can be impacted heavily by hormones. An imbalance in certain hormones including cortisol, oestrogen, insulin and testosterone can cause fat to accumulate whilst also causing our metabolism to slow down.
Hormonal imbalances can occur at certain points in a woman’s life such as during the menopause and also pregnancy. Stress can also lead to an imbalance, further impacting the build up of fat.
In fact, metabolism plays a big role in body fat as slower metabolisms will find it harder to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat. Ageing can result in a lower calorie expenditure which in turn leads to a slower metaoblism and more fat on the body.
If stubborn body fat is a problem for older members of your famly, then it is also more likely to have an impact as genetics can impact fat storage.
When diet and exercise don’t seem to help shift stubborn fat, we can help. Get in touch to find out what treatments we have available.

TREATMENTS FOR SUPERFICIAL BODY FAT
Cooltech offers a permanent way to reduce stubborn body fat. The technology works by the process of cryolipolysis, in which fat cells are frozen by a controlled cooling system. Fat cells are particularly sensitive to temperature, and freezing results in some cell death of this cell type, but not other cells in an area such as skin, nerves or muscle. Overall a reduction of up to 35% of fat cells can be removed in 1-3 treatments, with minimal down time.
The method is non-invasive, safe and effective and may give similar outcomes to liposuction – just without surgery.
