Lumecca™ IPL Therapy

The Lumecca™ IPL therapy is a powerful and effective treatment in reducing and removing hyperpigmentation and vascular lesions in the skin, from redness and spider veins to postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (for example, post-acne) and sun damage pigmentation. This popular anti-aging treatment is a quick treatment with visible results after the first one to two sessions.

Lumecca™ IPL uses intense pulsed light photo-thermolysis through the delivery of specific wavelengths of light which interact with red and brown pigments in the skin (melanin and haemoglobin). These pigments absorb the light energy and are destroyed, often in one session. Hyperpigmentation patches are fragmented and either absorbed and removed into the blood and lymphatic system, and thread veins are obliterated almost instantaneously.  Lumecca has a high specificity and selectivity for pigmentation and redness created by sun damage and is one of the most powerful treatments for this purpose.

Lumecca™ IPL is particularly successful in removing age spots (red/brown pigmentation), sun damage, vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains,  telangectasias), rosacea, freckles, acne scarring and melasma. Lumecca™ can be used on any part of the body with excellent results.

Lumecca™ IPL can be used on any part of the body. The most commonly treated areas are those that are most frequently exposed to the sun, i.e. the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.

Please note: A consultation and patch test is required at least 24 hours prior to treatment and included in your consultation should this be recommended to you by your practioner. This device is suitable for treating Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV, so may not be suitable for those with darker skin types. We offer alternative treatments such as our Pigmentation Facial, Microneedling and Bespoke Skincare products for hyperpigmentation in darker skin.

Lumecca™ IPL can be used with many other treatments we offer in clinic depending on your skin concern and skin type. These may include; the Pigmentation Facial, the Acne Facial, Bright Eyes and Anti-Wrinkle Injections.

Depending on the skin concern being treated the downtime varies but tends to be fully recovered within 7 days regarding you follow aftercare which your practitioner will go through with you. When treating vascular lesions, there is a risk of purplish bruising.

We recommend avoiding sun exposure for at least 3 weeks' after this treatment. In addition, we also require you not to be tanned prior to this treatment as it may make the skin more liable to burn, so cannot treat if you have been exposed to strong sun within 3 weeks of commencing a treatment course.

 We recommend not using any makeup for 24 hours post treatment, particularly if your skin is red or sensitive. We encourage use of sunscreen on day 1 post treatment to protect your skin from UV light. Our ALL DAY LONG day moisturiser with SPF 50+ can be used at this stage.

We recommend using no skincare products for the first day following the treatment. If your skin feels hot and red, you may use aloe vera or a soothing vitamin E gel. We encourage patients to let the skin settle by itself without applying any products that could potentially affect the skin's integrity such as vitamin C, retinoids or AHAs for at least 48 hours, and suggest using a high factor sunscreen the day after treatment, such as our ALL DAY LONG SPF 50 moisturiser.

Yes - we treat many patients with rosacea and see substantial benefit in most cases.

It is likely that your skin will be red directly after the treatment. This usually subsides within an hour or so. Some swelling may be present for the first few hours, and rarely for the first day post treatment. Pigmentation patches tend to get darker in the 24 hours following the treatment, giving a 'peppered' appearance to the skin. In rare cases, some areas of hyperpigmentation may flake off but more often they will be absorbed into the body over a 7-10 day period. Occasionally when treating larger thread veins, some bruising may occur.
