Theraclear™ Acne Therapy

Theraclear™ Acne Treatment is an IPL (intense pulsed light) based treatment designed to target cystic, inflammatory, nodulocystic, comedonal, and pustular acne on the face or body.

Theraclear™ reduces the number of open and closed comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) in the skin affected by active Acne Vulgaris. It uses a blue wavelenght Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) specifically targeting P. Acne bacteria in the skin (also known as C. Acne, or Cutibacterium acnes). It combines this with vacuum suction of blocked pores, extracting sebum. The Theraclear™ treatment targets the sebaceous gland, preventing further excess production of sebum. Acne cysts can be punctured and debris removed, providing immediate relief and aesthetic benefit.

This acne treatment is designed to specifically treat active acne vulgaris and rosace-acne. It unblocks and reduces pore size on the face or body, destroys C. Acne bacteria, reduces redness, prevents excessive sebum creation, treats acne cysts and reduces the risk of future breakouts. Patients will have clearer skin and flattened acne lesions which will disappear over time. The treatment does not discriminate between the different causes of acne and can be effective in cases that have not responded to topical treatments.

Theraclear™ Acne Treatment can be used to treat acne on the face or body and is suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV.

Theraclear™ Acne Treatment is used as part of our more extensive Acne Facial. It can also be used alongside other treatments such as injectables. Once acne is under control, Lumecca™ IPL or the The Perfect Peel™ can be used to treat any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation areas that may have developed as a result of inflammatory acne lesions.

There is virtually no downtime with this treatment, some redness is common but tends to settle within an hour. Due to the nature of the suction mechanism of Theraclear™ there is a small risk of bruising in treated areas.

Yes - this treatment is safe to perform in patients on Roaccutane and topical acne therapies

We recommend that Theraclear™ treatments are done after the first trimester of pregnancy, however, these treatments are safe to perform during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Usually patients will notice improvements after 2-3 treatments. Any active acne cysts can be drained as part of the treatment so these should improve within 1-2 sessions.
