Acne Facial

The Acne Facial aims to both combat the cause and to relieve the symptoms of active Acne Vulgaris, one of the most commonly encountered inflammatory skin conditions. This multi-step facial targets all of the skin-based underlying causes of the Acne Process, including excessive sebum production, blocked pores, inflammation and P. Acne bacterial colonisation. The Acne Facial can be used to treat cystic, inflammatory, nodulocystic, comedonal, and pustular acne on the face or body. This treatment can be used to treat active acne, prevent further breakouts and to help reduce the risk of later acne scarring. Patients will have clearer skin, reduced pores and flattened acne lesions which should disappear over time.

The Acne Facial treatment starts with a deep cleanse, followed by a tailored no-downtime, non-irritating alpha-hydroxy acid peel to exfoliate the skin. This is followed by dermaplaning (known as facial shaving) which removes the top layer of debris, dead skin cells and excess sebum from the skin, allowing the active ingredients in your recommended skincare products to penetrate the skin more effectively. A warm paraffin mask is then applied which prepares the skin for extraction of impurities. Medical extractions are then performed on blocked pores. The treatment is finished with Theraclear™, an IPL (intense pulsed light) based treatment which further unblocks pores and destroys the bacteria which drives the acne process, P. Acne. Theraclear™ also reduces redness and prevents excess sebum production. After applying soothing aftercare products and hydration your practitioner will go through a personalised skincare and treatment plan to ensure long-lasting, sustained results.

Skin will feel hydrated and refreshed, with pores unblocked and clear. Sebum production will be optimised and acne lesions will begin to calm and settle. The Acne Facial is an excellent facial as it not only improves the skin complexion and quality but actively targets the underlying causes and later effects of acne, further supported by your tailored skincare plan. This can be provided as part of the treatment.

The Acne Facial is designed specifically for the face and neck. Other parts of the treatment such as Theraclear can be performed as a stand alone treatments for any other body areas affected by acne.

The Acne Facial can be combined with our other treatments which aim to improve skin complexion and tone. When active acne is under control, any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can be treated with Lumecca™ IPL or the The Perfect Peel™ whilst the uneven skin tone caused by acne scarring can be treated with Morpheus8 Resurfacing and Dermal Fillers with Subcision.

Some redness can be expected immediately after the treatment. This should resolve completely in 12-24 hours.

We recommend avoiding retinoids the evening before treatment, however, retinoids (including prescription retinoids such as tretinoin) can usually be restarted on the evening of your treatment. If your skin is particularly sensitive, we would advise waiting for 24 hours after the treatment.

Yes - the Acne Facial can be done during the second and third trimester of pregnancy, however, we do not perform this treatment during the first trimester. We do not use retinoids as part of this treatment in pregnant individuals.

The Acne Facial is designed to treat active acne of all types, which may help reduce the risk of later acne scarring. It is not a treatment for acne scarring. We offer many alternative treatments for acne scarring, including skin resurfacing with microneedling and Morpheus8 Resurfacing, steroid injections, and Dermal Fillers with Subcision.

Yes - this treatment is specifically designed to be suitable for those with darker skin types (Fitzpatrick V + VI), for whom lasers and IPL treatments may not be suitable. In some cases, particularly with Fitzpatrick skin type VI, the Theraclear™ IPL treatment may be omitted.

We would recommend starting with a course of facials initially, one month apart. Between montly sessions, extra Theraclear™ treatments may be performed to significantly reduce P. Acne levels in the skin. The Acne Facial can be done on an ongoing basis for hormonal acne.
