What is Superficial Facial and Body Scarring?

A superficial facial or body scar is a mark on the top layer of the skin usually caused by an injury, a disease, a burn or even surgery. Stretch marks, caused when our skin grows or shrinks quickly, can also form scars as can insect bites, stings and even allergic reactions.
Scars can be flat but they may also be lumpy and they can be painful and frustrating too. Unfortunately, scars don’t disappear on their own, but over several years, they do tend to fade.

Typically, a scar develops when a wound is healing and new skin forms. Collagen is created to help to aid with recovery but as collagen is thicker and a little different to normal skin tissue, it can become what we know as a scar, which looks different to the rest of our healthy skin.

Anyone can be susceptible to scarring. If you have suffered from a skin condition such as acne or chicken pox, then a scar could have developed as your condition was healing.

Facial and body scarring can be treated with Microneedling, which is a non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation. This treatment is designed to improve skin quality through creation of micro-injuries to the dermis and epidermis of the skin.
