SKINCARE TO TREAT ROSACEA

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition predominantly affecting the face and causing redness, texture and increased visability of blood vessles. At a biological level, this mainly involves both vascular dysfunciton, as blood vessels in the face dilate too easily, and nervous system hypersensitivity, characterised by unusually reactive facial nerve endings.

Amongst triggers such as hormonal changes, cold weather is known to exacerbate rosacea due to the stark fluctuation in temperate your skin experiences when going indoors. As your skin adjusts to a warmer climate, blood vessels in the skin rapidly dilate, leading to increased flushing and redness.

Wind and low humidity additionally play important roles in triggering rosacea. Wind is a particularly significant irritant, directly stimulating nerve endings in the skin and weakening the mositure barrier, increasing both reacitvity and inflammation. In turn, low humidity - both from the outdoor climate and indoor heating, weakens the skin barrier, making it more succeptable to triggers and inflammation.

Rosacea flare ups can be difficult to avoid, particularly in cold climates, however, we offer a range of treatments and products to support the skin barrier and prevent symptopms. Get in touch to find out more.
