Your Treatment Guide

Your Lumecca IPL Treatment

Lumecca IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Therapy) is an advanced laser treatment aimed at reducing the
appearance of hyperpigmentation such as sun damage, age spots and rosacea. IPL
further works in reducing and removing vascular lesions in the skin such as
spider veins (broken veins) and redness, restoring a clear and rejuvenated
complexion.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR IPL TREATMENT

On the day of your Lumecca IPL appointment, be sure to wear comfortable clothes and avoid any high neck tops and jumpers if you are having treatment to the face and neck.

Please expect to be in clinic for around half an hour for the treatment.

AFTER YOUR LUMeCCA IPL

Immediate Post-Treatment (0–24 hours):

- No skincare or makeup products should be used on the skin at this stage.

- Avoid exercise and heat such as hot baths, showers, saunas/steam rooms to avoid heightening discomfort.

- Paracetamol or ibuprofen may be taken

- Avoid intense sun exposure directly after treatment, and for the following 2 weeks.

Your skin is likely to be red in appearance and feel hot and tender. Bruising and swelling may occur and will usually subside within 3-5 days. We recommend applying topical arnica cream for bruising and taking non-drowsy antihistamines and avoiding consuming substances containing histamines to reduce swelling.

Short-Term (1–2 days post treatment):

- Cleanse the skin with water and pat dry using a clean towel

- Begin to apply our All Day Long Broad-Spectrum SPF 50+ daily, however refrain from other skincare products and makeup.

- Avoid picking and scratching the skin

Swelling and bruising may remain visible, particularly if you had broken capillaries or thread veins treated, however this will begin to subside. We recommend continuing to take over the counter antihistamines to reduce swelling. Your pigmentation may also continue to darken, as the skin renews itself.

Day 3 – 14 post treatment:

-  On day 3 following treatment you may commence use of a gentle cleanser, such as our Supernova, and a non-acid based moisturiser, such as our Skin Cushion, however, please only do so if your skin does not feel irritated.

- You may also resume your normal exercise routine, however, be sure to continue to avoid saunas and steam rooms

On day 7 you may restart your skincare routine, however, continue to avoid retinol products

From day 3 following treatment you will begin to see a reduction in redness, swelling and bruising. If by day 5 your swelling and bruising has not begun to settle, and we feel
it's necessary for your healing, we may offer a complimentary LED session, so please do not hesitate to get in touch and provide us reference photos.

On week 4 post treatment, you may require a second treatment to ensure optimal results. If you do not undergo an additional treatment, you may resume your Retinol application.

Downtime and results of Lumecca IPL

It is normal to expect redness, some swelling and possibly some bruising for up to 7 days
following your Lumecca IPL treatment.

Some results may be evident directly following treatment, around the 30-day mark, however
final results can be seen at 9 months post treatment, due to collagen tissue maturation and resolution of swelling. You may wish to do a second procedure to enhance your results further.

Your Lumecca IPL results can last for a year or longer when maintained with your recommended antioxidant rich skincare, consistent SPF 50+ usage and sufficient protection against sun exposure.

For optimal long-term maintenance, you may like to book in for yearly top-up sessions, and your practitioner will provide a personalised plan based on your skin’s specific needs and results.
