We all know that filler treatments can work very well to boost facial volume, but things do go wrong with these treatments. The good news is fillers can be broken down quickly and easily. Dr. Jack offers dermal filler removal at his clinics in Harley Street, London and Edinburgh.

What is dermal filler removal?

Filler removal breaks down hyaluronic acid filler treatments (for example Juvederm, Restylane and Teosyal fillers) quickly and easily.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Quick and effective removal of unwanted filler. All hyaluronic acid based filler should be removed within 72 hours of the treatment.

HOW DOes DERMAL FILLER removal WORK?

The breakdown of unwanted filler involves the injection of an enzyme called Hyaluronidase (or Hyalase for short), which removes the filler in a short period of time. Usually the removal of filler involves multiple injections into an area of filler, then waiting for around 72 hours for the filler to be completely removed.

FAQ's

What happens at the appointment?

During your consultation Dr Jack will discuss the unwanted filler and the results you wish to achieve. If you are suitable for this treatment, Dr. Jack will often perform a test patch to check that you are not allergic to hyaluronidase.

The treatment areas will then be numbed with local anaesthetic cream to reduce any discomfort.

The Hyaluronidase will then be injected into multiple points of the target filler using a tiny needle.

The procedure lasts around 15-30 minutes.

Is downtime required after the treatment?

Often areas injected with hyalase can become swollen immediately after treatment, this generally settles after a few hours. Rarely swelling can last longer and occasionally will require treatment with antihistamine tablets. Bruising is also a risk of hyaluronidase injections.

How many treatments do I need?

Most often, only one treatment will be required to remove unwanted dermal filler, however, occasionally multiple treatments may be required if the initial treatment does not completely remove all residual filler.

How quickly will I see results?

The optimum effect will be visible 72 hours after treatment.

Are there any risks involved?

Filler removal is a fairly low risk procedure, however, there is a very tiny risk of allergic reaction to Hyaluronidase. In addition, Hyaluronidase can break down some of the Hyaluronic acid from your own tissues so there is a tiny risk also of reduced volume in an area until the body replaces its own Hyaluronic acid.
