Nicknamed the ‘vampire’ or ‘dracula facelift’, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) might sound frightening but this cult skin treatment is gaining a huge amount of popularity due to the great results it can deliver.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

The PRP facial was created to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin production. It uses the body’s own regenerative chemicals, no artificial chemicals or toxins are used, just your own blood which is treated and re-injected into your body.

What are the benefits?

PRP has a regenerative effect by thickening the dermis. It is particularly effective for creating younger looking skin, treating the thin under-eye area, reducing the appearance of fine lines and thickening the supporting layer of the skin. It can also be used to stimulate hair growth in those who have thinning hair.

How does PRP work?

PRP uses your own blood in the treatment. A small amount of blood is taken and spun to separate it into its different components. The platelet-rich part containing large amounts of regenerative and healing molecules is separated and injected into the skin, causing the body to create new collagen and elastin, which are key to younger looking skin.

FAQ's

What happens at the appointment?

After consultation, Dr. Jack will then take a small sample of your own blood, which is placed in a test tube. This is then placed in a centrifuge and the blood spun to separate the different components of your blood. During this time, Dr. Jack will apply a strong numbing cream to the area that is to be treated.

Once the blood has been spun, Dr. Jack then isolates the ‘platelet rich plasma’ (PRP) portion of the blood. He may then perform a derma roller micro needling procedure on your skin, creating tiny channels in the skin, and spread the PRP onto the skin for absorption, or inject the PRP directly without dermaroller.

The remainder of your blood plasma will then be spread on the treated area to seal any little bleeding points

Is downtime required after the treatment?

Surprisingly, there is very little downtime with this procedure, other than mild redness and swelling. This often settles by the following day.

How many treatments do I need?

Usually three treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for the best outcome.

How quickly will I see results?

The results are at their best around six weeks after a series of 3 treatments over an 18 week period.

How long does PRP last?

The treatment usually takes about 30 minutes in total

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Combined with dermaroller and mesotherpy, PRP can optimise the delivery of hydration and nutrients to the skin.
